2011 in Review
Not an all inclusive list, but it should do the job...
The Good
- Met a lot of awesome new people (and I have to mention Marissa Wiard and Josh Ashton by name since they probably helped keep me from turning into a full blown alcoholic over the Summer).
- Moved into my own place. Unless a roommate is a girl that I can sleep with, I'm no fan of having them. Living alone is much more fun than sharing a bathroom with someone.
- Got to do some great hikes. And even with the less than stellar weather this past Summer, Alaska still proved once again to be the most beautiful place on Earth.
- Surprised myself quite a few times throughout the year, which isn't easy for me.
- Met my future wife.
The Bad
- Didn't get in as much hiking as I was hoping. Even before spraining my ankle, there were too many weekends spent on the couch. There was also a major lack of disc golf.
- My job situation. Recently, I've been getting the feeling of being strung along at work (which will probably end up as a blog of its own one of these days) and that's a pretty annoying feeling.
- My house sucks. It seemed nice at first (minus the no-pet policy), but over the past couple months I've been finding more and more issues with it. And I'm only a third of the way through the lease at this point.
- Injured my ankle playing soccer, which led to an early end to the hiking season for me, the soccer season not even really starting, and what was supposed to be a two month break from jiu-jitsu, but has now been three months as I've gone back to the lazier lifestyle I was living at the beginning of Summer.
- Still haven't gotten the balls to ask my future wife out.
The Ugly
- Too much drinking. Too many days were wasted in bed recovering from the night before when I could've been doing something productive. Or at least not as unproductive.
- School. My grades were horrible this year and my motivation to even care about getting a degree is all but gone.
- Video games. More so than drinking, even more time has been wasted just sitting in front of the TV or computer playing games. I'm not talking about the one hour of playing to unwind at the end of the day, but the five to six hours after that just turning into a mental zombie.
- While I've never been that much of an "in-shape" person, I've managed to get ridiculously out of shape over the year. If I hadn't become so apathetic over recent months, I'd probably be disgusted with myself.
- Made it to church maybe a total of seven times over the whole year; that's just horrible.
For 2012...
I'm not a person for New Year's resolutions, at least not serious ones. And I'm not going to change that this year. However, I wouldn't be surprised to see some major changes in my life this year. Hopefully, they're for the better (I'm not making any promises though).
